David burned with anger against the man and said to Nathan, "As surely as the LORD lives, the man who did this deserves to die! He must pay for that lamb four times over, because he did such a thing and had no pity." Then Nathan said to David, "You are the man!
2 Samuel 12:5-7
We now David started off with one sin and then a whole chain of sin happened that lead to Uriah's murder. But what caught my eye in today's readings was that David did not repent or show any signs of remorse or guilt up until this time. David is the very one who has an amazing heart and thinks of God all the time. This period of time lasted at least the time of Bathsheba's pregnancy because the LORD took their son after he was born. Did David really think he was okay in God's eyes? Was he really blinded by his passion and initial sin that he couldn't see the devastation he created? Did he really believe that allowing someone else to pull the trigger that he was guilt-free? David was a repentant as there could be but sometimes we're just in too deep and we can't see the forest through the trees. Nathan the prophet was there to speak truth into David. At this time David realized what he'd done and repented. God forgave his sin but there were major consequences. We all need a "Nathan," someone to keep us accountable and watch our back.
This is so true and I can see this in the most worldly media, television. TV shows people sinning to cover up another sin and it goes on and on. It's terrible domino effect that needs to be nipped in the bud. We can't do this alone; we aren't designed to do this alone. I look no further than my marriage & my ministry. Thins will fall apart as we do it alone... feelings, tasks; all these are created for relationships, first with Jesus then to our neighbors. We need to focus on unity!
Heavenly Father, thank You for blessing us with relationships; the greatest being with You! Like a branch cut off from the tree, we will be okay for a short time but eventually we'll die without You. I pray LORD that we all continue to hold onto each other with godly motives and unified worship! I thank You for every hand that I hold... most especially Yours! In the compassionate and loving name of Christ Jesus I pray, Amen!
