Greater Love

We all know the familiar scripture of 1 Corinthians 13, love is patient and kind. But the more I read it the more it seems awkward that it's used in weddings to describe a romantic love.

As I choose to focus on verses 1-3 I can put the rest of the scripture in context. We're reminded that unconditional love through God's Spirit is what's counted on as our foundation to many other spiritual gifts. Our giftings are only beneficial as we use them WITH love. We cannot serve the Almighty without this key component no matter how great our "performance".

----

1If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.

2If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.

3And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing.
