Loyalties
17Now Sisera fled away on foot to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite, for there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite.
18Jael went out to meet Sisera, and said to him, "Turn aside, my master, turn aside to me! Do not be afraid." And he turned aside to her into the tent, and she covered him with a rug.
19(R)He said to her, "Please give me a little water to drink, for I am thirsty." So she opened a[b]bottle of milk and gave him a drink; then she covered him.
20He said to her, "Stand in the doorway of the tent, and it shall be if anyone comes and inquires of you, and says, 'Is there anyone here?' that you shall say, 'No.'"
21But Jael, Heber's wife, (S)took a tent peg and seized a hammer in her hand, and went secretly to him and drove the peg into his temple, and it went through into the ground; for he was sound asleep and exhausted. So he died.
Judges 4:17-21
The stories of Deborah and Jael goes a long way. Deborah, one of Israel's judges was probably the only one that was held in high regards... most (if not all) the others had blemishes on their record. And Jael, the wife of a Canaan business partner (Heber, the Kenite), was the heroine of the Isralites for killing (and ridiculing) the great Canaan army's general, Sisera.
Sometimes our loyalties will be tested without a moment to think about. Jael saw the Canaan general fleeing past her when she invited him in with the intention of killing him. She offered him warm milk (lots of it) instead of the water so that she would be in a perfect position to strike a much bigger enemy. God will use the most unlikely vessel to accomplish His will. We cannot be dissuaded just because of our view of ourselves, it's what He desires.
Father God, forgive me for doubting You. My ways are so limited (not to mentioned plain wrong at times), help me to trust You the way I should. In Your precious name Lord I pray, Amen!
