Freedom to Obey

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and
do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

Galatians 5:1

The freedom spoken of can be mis-interpreted dangerously. This
freedom can mean personal and selfish reasons to those not in line
with God's truth. It may be wrongly interpreted as a free ticket to
do anything we want because we're forgiven and covered under God's
grace. Not so! This freedom that Paul speaks of has to do with
freedom from the mosaic law. These laws stemmed from the 10
Commandments but were put in place to reveal our sins, it was never to
provide salvation. It was there to keep the Israelites in order until
the Messiah came. It was never intended to go on forever. Some rules/
laws are eternal, like love God and love neighbors... these are laws
that fall under God's new covenant. These laws were meant to carry on
into eternity because they reveal the character of God Almighty.
Other laws were meant to keep the people in check and humble. Things
like what foods you shouldn't eat and how women should dress, these
are rules based off culture and specifically applied to that time. We
can take gems away from those laws like discipline, respect, loyalty,
reverance, spiritual maturity... but the rule itself isn't eternal.
Freedom that Paul stresses here is the clarity that Jesus saves, the
Law shows why He's needed.

This freedom that I'm blessed with cannot be taken advantage of. I
don't have to obey these old customary rules and commands but it
places a heavier emphasis on discernment. This won't come after
reading the Bible, it'll come in increments as I sit daily with Christ
Jesus. It'll come as I step out in faith and stumble... lots! But I
have that freedom to pursue God as the Holy Spirit leads, not follow
and guidebook.

Thank You Father God for blessing be so abundantly with Your wisdom
and grace. You continiually pour teachings into my heart aimed at
transformation. I pray the this happens right here, right now. Love
You Jesus, amen!!
